It's Five for Friday

I'm joining Doodle Bugs weekly linky.

On Wednesday I reported back to work for Teacher Prep Days and had to leave Harley at home solo.

He was so happy to see me come home at the end of my first day of work.

As part of my prep work at school I put together and Emergency Sub Tub Cart.
I have it permanently up at my front teacher desk in a rolling cart.
It will make needing to be out unexpectedly less stressful.

I'm still recovering from a recent surgery, so being up and about all day at work has been a bit exhausting this week. I've been using heat packs to curb my pain a bit and then I come home and use the heating pad while sitting in this MOST comfortable chair.

My district has adopted Go Math for our new curriculum so I spent a good chunk of my time today lesson planning and trying to find my way through their technology pieces. It's going to take some time to get the hang of things.

My most recent addition to my TPT store is a MEGA bundle of all my reading and language task card sets. It's a total of 40 different skills at a 20% discount AND if gets even better. TPT's Back to School sale is coming up on Aug. 4th and 5th.  This MEGA bundle will be an additional 28% off (be sure to use the TPT code BTS14 to get that extra 8% off). Task cards are a great resource in any classroom.
If you've never used them, give them a try.

Don't miss out on the shopping TPT spree!

Task Card Freebie

Just prior to school ending I received a nice email via my school inbox from a fellow teacher, in a different district, who had run across a popular task card freebie I created called Seven Up Sentences. She was on the search for the author and wondered if it was me, as she wanted to add to her collection. I promised her I planned to make an additional set of Seven Up Sentences this summer. The idea is to take a short and simple sentence and expand it into a sentence with 7 or more words. I encourage use of descriptive adjectives, as well as adding the how or why details.  Grab it {HERE} If you haven't yet picked up the original set you can grab it too!

Tic Tac Toe Task Cards

One of the many ways I use task cards is by using Tic Tac Toe boards. Students pair up with a board, cute lil' X and O markers, and a task card set. Each player answers a card and if correct marks the board with a X or an O to get 3 in a row.

Wondering where to get the X and O markers? Head to Target and look for this box of Table Scatter!

I organize my task cards on a hanging bulletin board display that students use during centers or independent time. I also have ALL my task cards organized in tubs by subject so I can add them to my bulletin board and rotate them as I teach various concepts.

Addition Properties Task Cards

My class is learning about the 3 properties of addition: Commutative, Associative and Identity.
I made up a worksheet to review what these big 'ol words mean. For commutative I discuss the meaning of the word "commute" or change. I also call it the flip flop rule. You can change the position of the numbers but the answer stays the same.  For associative rule I relate it to talking in a group (associate). It doesn't matter who you talk to first.  The identity rule is the easiest which is the zero rule.  Grab your copy of the property worksheet here. I also have a set of task cards for the properties too.

Task Card Battleship

One activity I use often with task cards is Task Card Battleship which is played in the same manner as the familiar game Battleship.  Click the image below to grab a free copy.
