Last Day of Spring Break

I've been very busy spring cleaning my yard over my week long break.  I got several trees cut down (3 eucalyptus and a palm tree). I also trimmed four trees and got an overhaul on overgrown hedges and birds of paradise. Did I mention I have a half acre lot? It's no wonder I got a nice suntan while tackling my yard maintenance.

Then with the help of my parents I planted a Japanese Maple tree.

I'm not all done with everything I wanted to tackle in the yard, but the biggest areas of need are DONE. There's something so nice about seeing progress.

The joys of home ownership weren't limited to yard maintenance costs. I also had my water heater leak and needed to buy and install a new one to the tune of over $1,000.

Watercolor Art Project for Spring

Sending spring your way...

These fields of flowers sure do brighten up my classroom and make a beautiful bulletin board.

 

The art techniques used include using watercolors dabbed on with cotton balls for the 

landscape background. Then students draw in spring flowers along the fence line with oil pastels or crayons.

Signs of Spring

With Spring in the air, I read this book to my class today.

Then students wrote a poem called "Signs of Spring" with sunglasses decorated with their springtime views!  I used patterns similar to this sunglass template from The Best Kids Book Site. Looking for spring writing paper?  Check out the templates at Activity Village.

The poem above reads:

I go for a walk and what do I see?

Beautiful butterflies looking back at me.

I go for a walk and what do I smell?

Red, pretty roses, a joyful springtime smell.

I go for a walk and what do I hear?

Bees buzzing that's what I hear.

I go for a walk and what do I feel?

Sprinkling rain, that's what I feel.

I go for a walk and how do I feel?

Delighted and merry that's how I feel.

Spring makes my heart sing.
