Exit Ticket Assessment Activity: Grade the Teacher

Are you looking for a creative way to assess students or provide test prep? This "Grade the Teacher" exit ticket task is a perfect way to have your students show mastery and understanding of any skill by grading work done by you, the teacher. It provides valuable error analysis, critical thinking and reasoning opportunities. An added plus is that students love playing school and being the teacher. High engagement is always seen when I pull out this lesson. Try it with your class! You can grab it in my TPT store.

Test Prep Activities

Randy Sauer has written a testing theme song called Rock This Test.
So has Dallas Thompson's 5th graders. Links are below for both songs.
I'm adding them to my bag of testing tricks.
Standardized testing in my district will be in April. It's creeping up quickly.
I reinforce testing skills from week one of the school year though as part of my regular teaching.

Catchy rhymes and hints stick with my students when I use my Test Tip Posters.

Also, the week prior to testing I send home a healthy snack donation letter to parents so I can pass out brain friendly treats in between testing sessions.

On the first day of testing week I also give this Smart Cookie motivational note to each student

Another staple for test prep in my class is this "Grade the Teacher" activity.
It is so versatile and engaging and can be used for any subject. Students get to "grade" the teacher's work, which is purposely filled with errors for them to find. It's great for an exit ticket and error analysis. Plus, students don't even realize they are doing ALL the work by correcting and reteaching the teacher!

Test Prep Activities for State Testing

Testing will be upon many of our classrooms before we know it. Several years ago I created Testing Tips posters and rhymes that have become a valuable resource for helping my students for the dreading week of testing. I display my poster set as a bulletin board right at the beginning of each school year and find it provides constant reinforcement for test prep.  The set has 18 posters with a bulletin board caption. Go grab yourself a copy {HERE}.

I also do the cutest writing activity using this book:
It is included in the poster set.

I have a copy of this book on video from United Streaming.

Another wonderful, engaging test prep idea is my Grade the Teacher activity.
Students get to grade the teacher's mistakes on work, and it is always incredibly engaging and versatile.
You can get it HERE

State Testing Read Aloud Book and Writing Activity

I have to say that testing week wears me out. I have 1 day to go and I'll be done! Yeah.

I found this cutest book called The Biggest Test in the Universe by Nancy Poydar that is great for talking about feelings and anxiety over testing. The book is also available as a video on Discovery United Streaming and Amazon Prime Video. My class LOVED it!  Afterwards they wrote about how they would "tackle" the biggest test in the universe. It’s great for reinforcing and reminding students of test taking strategies in a fun way.

This is available as part of my Test Tip Poster set
