2014 School Year has Ended

Last Thursday was the last day of the school year. This is the first time in my 21 years of teaching that I had to miss the last days of school out of personal necessity. In my absence the end of the year went smoothly and I appreciated the gifts I got even more.
I find that some of the most meaningful end of year gifts are the simplest.

This was a jar of M & M with an inspirational teacher poem of thanks.
It ended by stating,
"You're a magnificent and marvelous teacher.
Thank you for being my M & M"

Teachers Rule Writing for Teacher Appreciation Week

Want to get your student's candid thoughts of you?
This is the writing to do: My Teacher Rules
Even my "pulling teeth", get to write student loved writing about ME and was the first one to want to share his thoughts aloud.
I posted about this last year, but my blog was just starting, so many of my now wonderful followers missed it. Check my original post for a read aloud I use with the writing.
It is perfect to honor your favorite teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week too!

Appreciation Shown!

How is appreciation shown to you for Teacher Appreciation Week?
Let me share the special ways I was spoiled.

I always look forward to receiving these letters from past students.
My coworker has her class write letters to their last year's teacher to show appreciation.

I also adore my gift from a parent, a Brighton necklace.

Typically, at our school, teachers are showered throughout the week with lots of heartfelt notes, flowers, gift cards, and sweet treats. Our wonderful PTA also provides snacks and lunches every day of the week.

Keep in touch. Find me at:

Power of a Poem

As teacher appreciation celebrations comes to an end I'd like to pass on some inspiration to all my fellow bloggers. Below is a poem that I share every year with colleagues, especially new teachers. It's a heartfelt one titled "If I Could Teach You Teacher". I've typed up a copy for everyone to enjoy. I hope it becomes one of your favorites like it is mine. I keep it displayed in my teacher corner and when I need my spirits lifted I just have to glance at it and feel renewed! Feel free to leave a comment if this poem spoke to you.

Teacher Appreciation

Over the years the gifts that touch my heart more than others seem to be the simple, yet heartfelt ones. I treasure notes and small tokens of appreciation.

My Teacher Rules Writing - Teacher Appreciation Activity

Every year I get the cutest responses to this writing activity. Save this one for the end of the year when, no doubt, it seems your students know you better than you know yourself! LOL.  I first read aloud the book What Teachers Can't Do. Then, I bravely allow my students to write their honest opinions about me on this "{My Teacher Rules" writing activity}. You can also use the activity for a teacher appreciation note for your child's own teacher or as a memory book for retiring teachers.
