High Stakes Math

I just wanted to share a great site for test prep my school site started using this year: High Stakes Math.
It requires a site subscription, but is wonderful. It's geared to California standards.
You can peek at sample resources on their site. I can create worksheets or quizzes in an instant by specific standards, or use premade resources.

I combined my Test Tip Poster strategies with High Stakes Math this year
and my benchmark scores have been impressive.

It's also easy to throw a High Stakes Math lesson under your document camera to teach whole group.
You could win one of these:

Luna Interactive Projection Camera Giveaway

I'm lucky to have another opportunity to share with you a great Learning Resources product.
I recently started using their Luna Projection Camera .
It works on dual platforms, PC and Mac and is easy to install. Just simply insert the CD, drag it to your desktop and follow the steps provided on the Luna App.

It is connected through the USB port of your computer, and doesn't use batteries, which is a plus.
I love the gooseneck on the camera for easy adjustment and versatility.
You can use it to project images of books, art project samples and any lesson imaginable in conjunction with a whiteboard projector. I've used it to snap photographs of sample projects with the simple touch of a button. In addition it has a video capture feature for recording. This is a product with many capabilities and is a welcome addition to my classroom.

For more information view this product video:

I'm Back from Vacation!

Long time no blog, but I've got a good excuse. I just returned from a wonderful Mexico vacation.
No school distractions for me for a whole week. Just the sun, sand, and some good beach reads.

Here's where I was, Gran Bahie Principe in Tulum, Mexico

I enjoyed a visit to the Tulum Ruins too.

I'll be posting about some of my Mexico beach reads on the blog Best Endings, as I am now a contributor over there.

I did have to leave my precious pup home when I went on vacation, but I read this book that's great for dog lovers. Be on the lookout for my review over at The Best Endings.

On another note the winners of my $5 shopping credit for Talbott's Teaching Trove are
Misty, Allison, Ms. Patterson, Becky, Traci, Corinna, Amber and Andrea.
If you left an email I will contact you so you can choose the files you want. If you didn't please contact me. Also, I came home to over 100 emails, and apparently at some point my store went offline while I was having fun in the sun. So if you tried to shop at my store and couldn't, it's now back up and running.

Back to reality now...work tomorrow!

Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent fractions can be tricky. So my class made this flip book visual to use as a reference.
For the flip book I just had the students use 5 sheets of ditto paper approximately 1 inch apart. Then they fold down the top and staple it.  Here's a handy link showing how to make the foldable. Once the foldable is made I use this fraction bar printable that students glue on each step of the flip book. Then they cut the fractional lines on each step to make it manipulative.

O'Lucky Quotes

O'Lucky I am, O'Lucky I am
Have I mentioned that my school has applied to get awarded California Distinguished School status?
As we prepare for our school validation visit next week, things are getting a WEE bit crazy at our site.
Today, I referred to it as our "Daily Dose of Frenzy" when our principal informed us that we should now post and have evidence of which standards our reflected in our bulletin boards, in addition to explicitly and clearly teaching (not just posting) objectives and standards.
I think this visitation team will top one of Kristin's Curriculum Cop days.
So today my class practiced writing quotations with a cute little ol' leprechaun portrait.

This hits standard Writing 1.1 Understand and be able to use complete and correct declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences in writing if you are so inclined to want to know.
I couldn't find a direct standard for quotations so this has to do.

Enough of my Distinguished school validation STRESS and on to the cuteness.

Wish me luck next week on the day of our validation visit.
Staff has been told to be prepared to be visited numerous times as the team is going to be on campus ALL....DAY....LONG.

Remember to be  O'LUCKY yourself and enter my Learning Resources Giveaway.

Easi Speak Giveaway

I'm excited to review a great product, Easi Speak Microphone from Learning Resources. It's a versatile tool for the classroom! Charging the microphone is easy. Just plug it into your USB port until fully charged, and then you're all set. The best part is that when you put the microphone in the hands of children they LOVE it. Color coded red and green buttons make it easy to operate. Just today I used the Easi Speak in the classroom when we did Reader's Theatre script reading. Students acted like stars in the making. I also used it during individual reading conferences with students. I haven't told my class yet, SSHHH, but I'm going to let them present their upcoming Cereal Box Reports using the microphone. They will cheer for sure!  Letting students play back and hear themselves is such a powerful learning too.  Way to go Learning Resources.

I'm having a GIVEAWAY and you can win your own microphone thanks to Learning Resources.
